Hospitals with no electricity, medicine or potable water. Monthly wages reduced to $1 USD per month. Intermittent electricity. Little access to water. Food cost impacted by the highest inflation on the planet. Little or no gasoline, no public transportation, no propane. Empty drug stores. Closed government offices. Churches shut down. 5 million citizens have fled the country. Venezuela is in the worst economic and humanitarian crisis in this Hemisphere. Almost no outside or foreign aid is allowed into the country.
Five years ago Venezuela blocked all missionary visas from the US to Venezuela. Unable to travel, the principals of Venezuela Now began seeking alternative ways to supply teaching material, medicines and, later, food.
In 2015 God opened a new door. We shipped 5,000 pounds of medicine and food, medicine valued at $200,000 in 2015. God has greatly blessed this small beginning. To date we have shipped 350,000 pounds of food, medical supplies and medicines and other materials such as text books.
This includes 2,650,000 meals and over $7 million in value of medical equipment, supplies and medicines. All of this was shipped in over 200 individual pallet crates, typically 42”x48”x60,” via Miami directly to the Seminary campus. Churches, civic clubs and individuals have filled and/or sponsored these pallets.
The Covid Pandemic shut-down of churches meeting for corporate worship greatly limited the number of US churches filling and sending pallet crates of food and medicine. However, the need in Venezuela only increased.
But again God opened new doors as other sponsors stepped forward to insure these desperately needed supplies continued to be delivered to the desperate situation in Venezuela. Several new partnerships have developed including working with SERV International and Manna International, MAP and Kingsway, Orphan Grain Train, Rotary International, Smooth Stone Ministries, Restoration International Network, The Methodist Church of Venezuela, The Wesley Medical Center, The Seminario Wesleyano de Venezuela and others.
Venezuela Now continues to seek out new partners for this critical ministry.
The partnership between U.S. churches, donors and over 40 churches in Venezuela is currently providing 13,000 meals a week and treated 45,000 patients in our Medical Center in 2020. Donors in the U.S. have sent over $7 million in value of Medicines and 2.6 million meals to Venezuela in the last five years. It all has arrived safely and is distributed to those in the greatest need.
